    From Textbooks to TikTok: Embracing Learning Styles Beyond the Page

    For students across the United States, it goes without saying, education is not created equal. From overcrowded classrooms to insufficient funding and resources to unhealthy environments, the educational disparities plaguing underserved communities continue to be a rallying cry for many.

    While educators and legislators have made slow and steady progress to address and lessen the gaps, the global pandemic has widened and amplified the ongoing realities for children of color.

    According to McKinsey & Company, “before the pandemic, students in majority-Black schools were nine months behind students in majority-White schools in mathematics in the Curriculum Associates data set.”

    Since the fall, “students in majority-Black schools are now a full 12 months behind those in majority-White schools, widening the preexisting achievement gap between Black and White students by about a third,” concluded McKinsey’s December findings.

    Navigating the emotional, physical, and social tolls of learning pre- and post-pandemic has many children simply trying to do their best without falling (even further) behind.
